The largest Keratoconus and Corneal Cross-Linking (KCXL) Experts Conference to-date of Ophthalmologists from 46 countries has taken place!
This experts conference is the first international event focused on advancing the clinical practice and research of keratoconus and corneal cross-linking (CXL).
This year it has reached the milestone of being the 21st International Corneal Cross-Linking & Keratoconus Experts Meeting (KCXL 2025). It was held over 3 daus on 11-13 December 2025, in Milan, Italy. It was hosted at the Humanities Congress Center, the event brought together approximately 200 expert professionals from over 40 countries to discuss the latest advancements in Keratoconus diagnosis and treatment.
It's Scale: Gathered ophthalmologists and researchers from 46 different countries, making it the largest KCXL meeting to date.
It's Legacy: The meeting has been running for 21 years and is known as the longest-standing international event of its kind.

Scientific Program: The meeting covered a wide range of topics, including Keratoconus screening and staging, state-of-the-art corneal cross-linking (CXL) protocols, and advanced diagnostics like OCT elastography and Brillouin microscopy.
Innovation Award: Dr. Shady Awwad received the Innovation Award, presented by the Light for Sight Foundation, for his contributions to the field.
Consensus Updates: Presentations included the 2nd Global Consensus on Keratoconus, focusing on standardised definitions, diagnosis, and surgical rehabilitation.
Technical Developments: Discussions highlighted the Sub400 protocol for ultra-thin corneas and ELZA-PACE, a second-generation customised cross-linking technique.
Hands-on Workshops: Practical sessions allowed attendees to gain experience with corneal tomography devices and surgical simulation systems to assist in CAIRS training.
Organisers announced that the next conference will return to Zurich, Switzerland, scheduled for November 26–28, 2026.
